| NEVER COLOR OR SHADE YOUR ORIGINAL SKETCH/DRAWING Because I was never totally comfortable with flying by the seat of my pants when it came to doing the color in a tattoo, I picked up a 3 part system so I could have a line drawing available for custom tattoos and a color version handy during the tattooing. 1.) After you've completed your original sketch, clean it up with a liner pen. 2.) Make a clean line drawing by making a tracing using a liner pen and tracing paper. Personally, I use clear vellum for my tracing. It is a little pricier than regular tracing paper but reduces smudging. 3.) Lightly trace your line drawing onto a piece of smooth bristol board, or surface of choice, using a mechanical pencil and a light board. Avoid using too much pressure when tracing because it can leave hard dents in your paper which don't pick up color so well. Tools of the Trade: Ticonderoga erasable correction pencil (red) for sketching Micron and Prismacolor liner pens Prismacolor colored pencils and markers Strathmore smooth bristol board Artograph LightTracer lightboard *These can all be purchased at most arts and crafts stores like Hobby Lobby. |
